APBC Update
The Administrative Planning and Budget
Committee (APBC) is committed to keeping the University community informed
of its activities. This update is one in a series that reports decisions
made by the committee.
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING DOCTORAL PROGRAM
PROPOSAL
The Budget Sub-Committee recommended and the APBC approved the College
of Engineering Doctoral Program proposal dated April 2003. The new course
of study is integral to the strategic plan of the College and congruent
with the mission of the University. The graduate structure is in place
for a doctoral program and a majority of the faculty supports the proposal.
The interdisciplinary program will be self-sufficient and will not have
a financial impact on the undergraduate programs.
MIDDLE STATES RECOMMENDATIONS
The APBC reviewed the following two Middle States recommendations:
• The APBC should consider re-establishing the internal grant program
to stimulate departments investigating and incorporating innovative programs
and practices.
• Re-establish and expand the Strategic Planning Grants program
to fund individuals and groups interested in piloting innovative academic
and administrative ideas broadly supportive of Villanova's mission.
In both cases, the APBC supported the spirit and intention of the recommendations.
However, rather than create new administrative structures, the APBC elected
to encourage individuals and groups to submit proposals to their area
vice president who in turn can opt to carry forward the proposal to the
APBC as a request for funding from a special strategic planning account.
PROCESS FOR INTEGRATED STRATEGIC PLANNING
The APBC is reviewing the process for fully integrating the strategic
plans.
