On
April 10, the Office for Mission Effectiveness held a “Hiring for
Mission” workshop, which was presented by Dr. Nathan O. Hatch, Andrew
V. Tackes Professor of History, and University of Notre Dame’s provost.
The afternoon started with a luncheon for those attending, and then an
address by Dr. Hatch. “Who the department chairs will be, I think,
is the most important thing for long term mission,” said Hatch.
He went on to speak about other important factors in hiring for Mission
Effectiveness. “I think it’s much easier to hire for mission
if you have some academic areas that verify the institutions religious
identity,” added Hatch.
Following Dr. Hatch’s address, the faculty in attendance broke into
small groups to discuss some questions as what exactly hiring for Mission
means to Villanova. Afterwards, Dr. Hatch responded to questions that
were raised during the discussions.
