Campus Convenes for St. Thomas of Villanova
Day The day's festivities began with a special liturgy in the Grotto, celebrated by Father Dobbin. From there, students, faculty, staff, and administrators assembled in the Pavilion for the academic convocation. Father Dobbin presided over the program, delivering opening remarks and welcoming the class of 2006. The ceremony featured the presentation of awards to faculty and staff as well as a keynote address by Dr. Crystal Lucky. The Lawrence C. Gallen, O.S.A. Award for Distinguished Faculty Service was given to Dr. Lowell S. Gustafson, associate professor of political science for his service to the Villanova community and concern for faculty and student welfare. Noreen Cameron, associate director of Campus Ministry was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for an Individual for her dedication to the moral growth and spiritual development of Villanova and the outside community. The Homecoming Planning Committee was
presented to the Distinguished Service Award for a Team for its effort
in organizing and maintaining the Homecoming celebration for alumni, students,
and friends. The committee members included: Christine D. Acchione, assistant
director of Campus Alumni Programs; Anthony N. Alfano, director, Connelly
Center; Carolyn R. Arena, parking manager; James N. Belzer, assistant
facility coordinator, Athletics; Gerhard H. Bonas Jr., director of Continuing
Studies; Steven R. Cauterucci, supervisor of electrical, Facilities Services;
Timothy J. Dietzler, director of operations, Dining Services; Elizabeth
M. DiRita, work coordinator II, Facilities Management; Christine A. Faistl,
assistant director of Student Development; Kathy M. Gallagher, assistant
director of University Card Systems; William L. Haile, area manager, Dining
Services; Jeffrey B. Horton, director of Public Safety; John A. Jeffery,
associate director of Student Development; Amy T. Layman, associate director
of Alumni Affairs/Technical; Christopher T. Lloyd, associate director
of Public Safety; Thomas M. Malloy, Following the awards ceremony, Dr. Crystal Lucky, assistant professor of English, delivered the keynote address on generations--who we are, where we came from, and how we relate to each other. At the close of the convocation, the assembly, along with hundreds of students representing different organizations, proceeded to Austin Field. The Villanova community enjoyed the festival and buffet dinner with music and entertainment provided by Music Activities. |
