Naval ROTC Fall Review
By Liz Natale '03

In the sunshine of a warm early autumn day, Villanova's Naval ROTC held its annual Fall Review on Oct. 1 on Mendel Field.

The opening events included a drill exhibition by the Whiskey Company, the battalion march on, the India Company formation, and welcoming remarks by Villanova's Naval ROTC commanding officer, Colonel J. Bruce Hulick, USMC.

The Midshipmen Oath was then administered to the freshman Naval ROTC students. They have completed a five-week orientation program and have been selected as the future for Villanova's NROTC program as well as for the United States Navy and Marines. They were sworn in by Admiral William J. Fallon, USN, Vice Chief of Naval Operations and '67 graduate of Villanova's Naval ROTC.

Two awards were presented to the India Company graduates. Nicholas Marini received the fourth annual Milton Belle Award for his initiative, determination and creativity in the field, and Naida Nauss received the Liberty Bell Award for her teamwork, sacrifice and effort. The graduates were then assigned to their permanent companies.

A memorial dedication was made in honor of '67 alumnus Patrick James Harrington, who gave his life in service during the Vietnam War. Colonel Hulick accepted a commemorative plaque in his name.
