Merrimack
College Awatds Honorary Degree to Father McGuire
The
Rev. William McGuire, O.S.A. senior vice president for administration,
has been awarded an honorary degree, Doctor of Augustinian Education,
by Merrimack College, North Andover, Mass. Like Villanova, Merrimack College
is an Augustinian Institution. Father McGuire received the degree during
Merrimack’s fifty-third commencement exercises on Sunday, May 18.
Father McGuire has served as senior vice president for administration
since 1998. Previously, he was dean of enrollment management from 1990
to 1998. He was served as assistant athletic director (1987-1989), assistant
dean of liberal arts (1982-1987), and assistant dean of admissions (1979-1982).
Father McGuire holds a master’s degree in religious education from
the Augustinian College in Washington, D.C. and a bachelor’s degree
in philosophy and English from Villanova.
Father McGuire served on the board of trustees at Merrimack College (1993-2001)
and was chairman in 2001. He also served on the board of trustees of Malvern
Preparatory School in Malvern, Penn. (1987-1992), Philadelphia Catholic
League in Philadelphia, Penn. (1976-1979), Austin Preparatory School in
Reading, Mass. (1971-1973), Augustinian College in Washington, D.C. (1971-1972)
and the Augustinian Society on Staten Island, N.Y. (1971-1972). Additionally,
he has been a member of the National Association of College Admissions
Counselors and the American Association of College Registrars and Admissions
Counselors since 1998.
