Athletic Director
Dean Kenefick
Villanova University President Reverend Edmund
J. Dobbin, O.S.A. announced that Vince Nicastro, formerly the Wildcats’
associate athletic director for Administration, has been named director
of athletics.
Nicastro, 34, replaces former Villanova
Athletic Director Tim Hofferth, who resigned on June 30 to become
president and chief operating officer for Nelligan Sports Marketing (NSM).
NSM is a sports marketing company that provides sales and marketing
expertise for sports properties worldwide.
Nicastro has been a member of the Villanova
Athletic Department since 1994 when he came to the Main Line as the
school’s director of Ticket Operations. He was promoted to assistant
athletic director in 1997.
As the director of athletics, Nicastro will be
responsible for the overall supervision of a Villanova athletic
department that is committed to excellence both in competition and in
the classroom. The broad-based Wildcat athletic program is comprised of
24 men’s and women’s varsity sports and 550 student athletes. In
addition, club sports and an extensive intramural program fall under the
auspices of the athletic department. Villanova is a member of the Big
East Conference, as well as the Atlantic 10 Football Conference.
Nicastro began his career in athletics in 1989
when he was the Director of Operations for the Seattle Mariner AA
affiliate Williamsport Bills. After a two-year stint with the Bills,
Nicastro served as the director of Tickets and Promotions at St. Joseph’s
University.
A 1987 graduate of Bloomsburg University with a
bachelor of science degree in business administration/accounting,
Nicastro earned a masters in business administration from St. Joseph’s
University in 1994.
Nicastro and his wife, Liz, are the parents of
newborn twin boys, Casey Vincent and John Joseph.
