Villanova Celebrates Christmas at Steinway Hall
Annual Event Brings Together Alumni and Friends to Kick-off the Holiday
Season
Steinway
Hall in New York City was again the setting for Villanova’s annual Christmas
celebration on December 6, 2001. More
than 100 alumni and friends gathered to toast the University and the beginning
of the holiday season.
“This
party has become the perfect opportunity to celebrate Villanova and honor those
who have so generously supported the University’s fundraising efforts,”
commented Rev. Edmund J. Dobbin, O.S.A., University President.
In
what has become an annual tradition, this marks the ninth year that Villanova
has celebrated Christmas in New York City. One again, the party was hosted
by Robert M. Birmingham '66, former owner and director, Steinway & Sons, and
former chairman of the Villanova University Board of Trustees.
"I
am pleased that Steinway Hall continues to provide the perfect setting for this
event," remarked Birmingham. "At such a special time of year, it
is refreshing to gather with other Villanovans to celebrate our achievements and
toast the University."
The
event was one of the first official events of the University’s new fundraising
effort, Transforming Minds and Hearts: The Campaign for Villanova.
The evening featured a performance by accomplished pianist Joe Augustine,
a singing of the Villanova Alma Mater led by Christina Cafero ’02, and remarks
by Father Dobbin, including a review of progress from The Campaign, which
revealed more than $38 million in early commitments.
“Each
year, it seems that we have more to celebrate as Villanovans, and this year is
no exception,” added Fr. Dobbin. “This
Christmas season, we feel a renewed sense of community and gain strength from
those who are close to us. It is
this strength that Villanova seeks to build on as we begin the new year and
continue to prepare for the future.
